Madhya Pradesh has a central location in the map of India and is naturally endowed with the riches of Nature. From River to plateaus or hilly region, the state has all that resources which are enough to make a state prosperous.

Madhya Pradesh is known for the richness & galore of the cultural beliefs & the great historical base of this state. Madhya Pradesh has basically three major World Heritage sites namely-

The Rock Shelters in Bhimbetka

These are unique rock shelters of very ancient age at a place situated at a distance of 46 km from the Bhopal which happens to be one of the major cities of the state.

These rock shelters are from different ages of Ancient Period and have many inscriptions which depict the thoughts & cultural beliefs of the people of the ancient times. Bhimbetka serves to be a unique treasure for the Archaeological studies and have enormous proofs of the life & practices of the ancient people. There are many caves which have numerous paintings which are depictions of the chronicles of the Neolithic age. This is one of the must see places in the state.

How to Reach

One can easily reach Bhimbetka by road as it has a good roadway network to the destination. There are proper airway routes too which connect to Bhopal and from there one can follow the road network to visit this World Heritage Site.

The Khajuraho Group of Temples

The Khajuraho Group of Temples are more famous for the erotic depiction of the earthly desires and symbolizes the high intellect of the Chandela rulers who initiated the construction of these temples.

These temples also depict the existence of an open minded approach for the worldly passions to be one of the mediums of emotional catharsis. One thing that is very clear from the construction of these temples is that the attainment of human desires was not a social taboo during times which also says a lot about the developed mindset of the people so as to initiate the construction on of a one of its kind of heritage monument.

How to Reach

Khajuraho lies on the border of the states Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh and has an airport & a railways station located at a distance of 6 km from the main town area.

The Stupa at Sanchi

The Stupa at Sanchi is another renowned monument located in the state and  symbolizes the diversity in religious beliefs of the rulers of the medieval times.

The Sanchi Stupa is credited to be built by The Mauryan Emperor Ashoka who after the Kalinga War got enlightenment and accepted the path of peace & non-violence as er Buddhism. He later on came to be known as Dhamma Ashoka for the enormous contributions he made for the peaceful existence of Humanity and peaceful co-existence. He is the till date known as the greatest ruler of the Mauryan Empire and is known to spread Buddhism to major parts of the country and other countries too. He contributed in the construction of Buddhist Monasteries, Stupas, Viharas and many more monuments. I is definitely a must visit place in Madhya Pradesh and also one of the World Heritage Sites of the country!

Sanchi lies on the Jhansi-Itarsi section of the Central railways. The place is well connected by major cities through roads & airways too.
